A few weeks ago, I told the 5th-8th graders about a time that God helped me by guiding me to just the Scripture I needed when I prayed and randomly opened my Bible. Last week, I was excited to learn that they had an experience kind of like that with Ms. Valisa! I don’t remember the details, but they landed on Ezra 7:10:

“This was because Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the LORD and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel.” New Living Translation.

Ezra was in Babylon, far away from where he was sure he was supposed to be, and he made a determination that he knew would lead not only him, but others dear to him to where they needed to be. It was a faith determination—not a ‘grit your teeth’ determination. It didn’t come from the idea that he could earn his way into God’s favor; it came from his complete trust in the Lord, Yahweh his Creator.

He determined to learn the will of God for him and his people, and to fulfill his call as a leader to teach his people so that together they could follow Him faithfully.

I hear that same call for you and me in our families. Let’s determine to learn God’s plan for us, and lead our children in following Him.
